Gerald Johnson

Gerald L. Johnson, 80, of McPherson and formerly of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital. He was the son of Charley "Chuck" Johnson and Louise Writer Walline. He owned & operated a lawn mowing service in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson, American Legion Post, and life members of the VFW #2715, Paralyzed Veterans Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.

He served in the U.S. Army, WWII, 79th Division, receiving the purple heart.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, July 10, 2006, at the First Christian Church, McPherson. Burial, with full military honors provided by VFW #2715 and American Legion Post #24, will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lindsborg, Kansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Family will be present during this time.

Survivors include: his brother, Carl L. Johnson of McPherson; sisters, Ellinore C. Morrow of McPherson and Gloria Thompson of McPherson; step-sons, Jimmy Collins of Arizona and Kenny Robinson of Arkansas; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Thorval, and a brother, Alvin.
