George Foster

George B. Foster, 83, of McPherson, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009, at his home in McPherson. George was born on February 21, 1926, in Keytesville, MO, the son of David Herbert and Viola (Smith) Foster. On July 3, 1949, in Ottawa, KS, he was united in marriage to Velma M. Shephard. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1991. George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a retired Senior Operator for Getty Underground Storage Facility in Conway, Kansas. He previously had worked at the Skelgas Bottling Plant in Ottawa, KS.

George was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church (Marquette, KS), American Legion Post #24, and the V.F.W. Post #2715.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor Cheryl Lamaak officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Survivors include: daughters, Pam Roddy of Hutchinson, KS and Karen Sumner of McPherson, KS; companion, Peggy Spillman of McPherson, KS; brothers, Larry "Pete" Foster and wife, Kaye, of Topeka, KS, Paul Foster and wife, Pat, of Topeka, KS, Tom Foster of Topeka, KS, and David Foster of Mountain Home, AR; sisters, Mary Jones and husband, Galen, of Topeka, KS, Beverly Bower of Topeka, KS, and Jean Patrick of Brunswick, MO; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Velma, step-mother, Millie (Flanagan) Foster, a brother, Herbert Foster, Jr., and sisters, Joan Duncan and Viola Booten.
