E. Spence

E. Richard Spence, 84, of McPherson and formerly of rural Rice County, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. Richard was born on August 11, 1925, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Homer Richard and Maggie Mae (McClain) Spence. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1942 and attended McPherson College. On October 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Doris Maxine Flood in McPherson, Kansas. He was a farmer, cattleman, and custom harvester.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church, Y.E.S. Sunday School Class, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 PM, Friday, October 23, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Survivors include: his wife, Maxine of the home; two sons, David Spence and wife, Jonetta, of Hutchinson, KS and Eugene Richard "Dick" Spence, II of Galva, KS; two daughters, Monica Bounds & husband, Clarence, of Wright, KS and Denice Dater and husband, Greg, of Little River, KS; a brother, Dwight Spence of McPherson; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey McNichols.
