Clarence Burnette

Clarence William Burnette, 84, of Salina, and formerly of McPherson, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Holiday Resort Nursing Home, Salina. He was a retired farmer. He also worked for NCRA and was an independent oil producer.

Clarence was born on August 9, 1926, the son of William Maynard and Ethel Gertrude (Melton) Burnette. He graduated from Asherville High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Water Tender 2nd Class, USS Edgecomb, Pacific. On April 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Eva Marie McKee in Asherville, KS.

Clarence was a member of International Order of Odd Fellows, McPherson.

Survivors include: his wife, Eva of Salina; sons, Bill Burnette of McPherson, KS and Bob Burnette of Gladstone, MO; daughters, Bonnie Jakabosky of McPherson, KS, Leta Nelson (LaRue) of McPherson, KS, and Ann Lockwood (Brad) of McPherson, KS; sister, Ruth Burnette of Lawrence, KS; brother-in-law, Emery Bever of Towanda, KS; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, John Burnette, and sister, Dorene Bever.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, July 18, 2011, at Salina Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be in McPherson Cemetery.
