Carolyn Mcmindes

Carolyn M. McMindes, 71, of McPherson and formerly of Beloit, KS, California, Hawaii, Norfolk, VA, and Belleville, Illinois, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson.

She was the daughter of Wilmont and Carolyn Marie (Bevans) VanSchaick. On June 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to Delos J. McMindes at the First Baptist Church in Oxnard, CA. She was a retired RN/MSN in community mental health for 10 years at Yolo County, CA, was a substitute teacher in Beloit, KS, and started the School of Nursing at the College of the Southwest in Hobbs, NM.

She was a member of the National Honor Society for Nursing, belonged on the Yolo County Health Services Board, was a church choir director for 25 years, and was a member of the Scott AFB Chorale Society. She received her associates degree in nursing at the University of Hawaii and received her bachelors and masters degree at the West Texas State University.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with pastor Rick Grace officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.

Survivors include: her husband, Delos J. McMindes of the home; two sons, Stephen J. McMindes of Hurst, Texas, LCDR David B. McMindes of Jacksonville, North Carolina; two daughters, Debbie A. Tice of McPherson and Barbara M. Lillemon of Folsom, CA; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
