Betty Stanley

Mrs. Betty Stanley passed away quietly Sunday, April 22, 2018. She had been a teacher of English and Journalism for more than 40 years in Lubbock, Texas: first in junior high, then in high school, then in community college.

Mrs. Stanley was born in Lubbock and married once, to Fred Carlton Stanley, an Air Force Lieutenant who died in 1958. On her last day of consciousness, Mrs. Stanley went to her exercise class, had lunch with her daughter, and talked to her son on the phone. She was bright, funny and out-spoken to the end.

She is survived by her sister Doris Bates, of Lubbock; her brother Jonny Davis, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her son David Stanley, of Boise, Idaho; her daughter Kim Stanley, of McPherson; her granddaughter Sally Stanley Davis, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her grandson Sam Carlton Stanley, of Tooele, Utah; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, May 4, 2018, at The Cedars Conference Center with Chaplain Chris Whitacre officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Cedars, 1021 Cedars Dr., McPherson, KS 67460 (where Mrs. Stanley spent her last ten years); or to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202 or in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
