Ben Paul Sargent

Ben Paul Sargent, 8, of Cypress, TX, passed away at Texas Children’s Hospital on May 20, 2014, from surgical complications. Ben was a beautiful little boy who brought joy and light to everyone he met.

Ben was born with muscular myopathy but he never let his disability keep him from the things he loved. Ben had a passion for NFL football, especially J.J. Watt, NHL Hockey, horses, knights, WWE wrestling, and anything that went fast. Ben loved playing in the pool with his dad, singing and listening to music, and was quite the character with a big personality to go with his beautiful auburn hair. Ben’s parents made sure that each day with Ben was treasured. They were tireless in their care for Ben; night time was very special for the family as Mom would give Ben foot rubs before Dad would take Ben to bed for one of their pillow chats.

Ben enjoyed his caregivers, Jamya and Anouar, and loved to play with the neighbor kids. Ben thought his Dad was superman and could do anything. Ben loved to Face Time his aunts in New Hampshire and talk-trash about football before telling them he loved them. He would travel to Guatemala to visit his cousins and grandparents - they were all very close. Ben was a gift from heaven, and the family moved mountains for him every time they could.

Ben loved to travel with his Mom and Dad, especially on the Disney Cruises with the kids club. His last trip was at Easter to New York, Boston and New Hampshire, to visit his Sargent family. It was a trip the family all were driven to make special, but didn’t really know why until now. Ben loved the trip and spent four great hours at FAO Schwarz, building a custom race car and a Muppet. Ben also picked out twin stuffed dogs for himself and his friend Sally. Following the trip, his folks went and found a rescue dog for him that looked just like the stuffed one. Coco arrived the night before his surgery. Ben stayed up very late that night with Coco right beside him.

Ben was born on his grandfather, Stan Sargent’s, birthday, August 2, 2005, in Pueblo, CO, to John and Paola Sargent, formerly of McPherson, KS. Ben had two dogs, Coco and Sam.

Ben is survived by: his parents; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Sargent-Johnson of Manchester, NH; maternal grandparents, Ricardo & Vilma Ubico of Guatemala City, Guatemala; aunts, Mary Sargent (Karen) of Windham, NH, Andrea Ubico Casteneda (Christian) of Guatemala City, Guatemala; uncles, Andy Sargent (Patty) of Windham, NH, Peter Sargent (Susan) of Prairie Village, KS, Juan Carlos Ubico (Elena) of Guatemala City, Guatemala; and great-uncle, Jan Van Asselt (Meg) of McPherson, KS. Ben’s first cousins where all very special to him and include: Christian, Camila, Valentina, Sofia, Isabela, Aaron, Conner, Madison and Brooks.

Ben was preceded in death by his grandfather, Stan Sargent, great-aunt, Peggy Sargent-Van Asselt, and great uncle, Ben York, Jr (Adeline).
