Arlene Kough

Arlene R. Kough, 90, of McPherson, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, KS. She was a homemaker and had been a McPherson resident since 1985, moving from Morgan Hill, CA.

Mrs. Kough was born December 10, 1921, in Lone Star, Kansas, the daughter of Martin D. and Pearl I. (Fishburn) Flory. She was one of four children born to the Flory family.

Arlene was a graduate of McPherson College, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition. She later served on the McPherson College's Board of Trustees. Arlene was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Ladies Reading Circle, and Friends in Council. In addition, she also served as a volunteer at the Hess Fitness Center and for Meals on Wheels.

On July 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to John K. "Jack" Kough in Brooklyn, NY. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1982.

Survivors include: a daughter, Ann Kough (John Kennedy, Jr.) of Laguna Beach, CA; two sons, John Flory Kough of Abilene, KS and Colin Keller Kough (Cathy) of Salem, OR; two sisters, Vena Stucky of Wichita, KS and Vera Whitaker of McPherson, KS; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, and a brother, Martin D. Flory, Jr.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 20, 2012, at the McPherson Church of the Brethren. Rev. Chris Whitacre and Pastor Kathryn Whitacre will officiate the service. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in the Washington Creek Church Cemetery (Douglas County, KS) at a later date.
