Andrew W. "Andy" Sammer, 94, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at The Cedars, McPherson. He worked as a leaderman welder at the N.C.R.A. Refinery, retiring in 1979.

Andy was born on December 7, 1913, in Woodward, Oklahoma, the son of Fredrick Thomas and Laura Luzetta (Christenson) Sammer. He graduated from high school in Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees during W.W.II, Phillipine Islands from 1943 to 1945.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class, O.C.A.W. Union Local #524, and Past Master of McPherson Masonic Lodge #172.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the First Baptist Church. Private interment with Military Honors conducted by McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715 and American Legion Post #24 will be in McPherson Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:30 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

His survivors include: sons, Denny Sammer and wife, Gay, of San Antonio, TX, Dick Sammer and wife, Trudy, of Nashville, TN, and Dana Sammer and wife, Susanne, of McPherson, KS; a brother, Dallas Sammer of Bartlesville, OK; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence E. (Post) Sammer, and a sister, Mervene Goff.
