Alvin Anderson

Alvin D. Anderson, 84, of McPherson, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at McPherson Hospital. He was a retired school teacher and had been a McPherson resident since July 2011, moving from Yuba City, CA.

He was born November 26, 1928, in Big Bow, Kansas, the son of Fred E. and Iva (Chase) Anderson. On September 6, 1969, he married Elizabeth Elaine Woodruff in Escondido, CA.

Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of Yuba City Nazarene Church in Yuba City, CA.

Survivors include: his wife, Elaine of the home; three sons, Larry Anderson (Ann) of McPherson, Danny Anderson of Payson, AZ, and Eddie Anderson (Beth) of Kelliher, MN; a daughter, Christy Joy of Yuba City, CA; a brother, Don Anderson (Doris) of McPherson, KS; a sister, Dorothy Patterson of Ripon, CA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Eugene Anderson, a granddaughter, Hailey Anderson, two brothers, Albert and Arden, and sisters, Velma and Neva.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Friday, February 1, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Griffith and Rev. Glenn Lorenz will officiate the service. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
